Redevelopment phase

In this phase, the decision is made to extend the temporary housing term, place a different target group, demolish the building and redevelop the area or change the building back to its original state.

Checklist phase 5:

Stakeholders.

Who is involved in this step? and why?

After completing this step, the owner will start developing the building or the land on which it stands.

Next steps.

After the building has fulfilled its function of temporary housing, it will move on to its next phase. In this phase, the care parties must find new accommodation for customers, depending on the contractual agreement.

For this phase there are roughly three possibilities for the future of the building:

The building goes back to its original function

An example of this is an office that has temporarily taken care of a vulnerable group and is returning to its original function as an office. The interventions applied in the transformation will be reversed, after which the building can function as an office again.

The building is permanently transformed

This is a common approach for new construction these days. Reusing the original foundations and concrete construction parts of buildings saves a lot of emissions in construction. This option is therefore more sustainable than a complete rebuild, and the demolition of reinforced concrete is also very labour-intensive and therefore expensive. So a new building is being built around these old parts.

Demolition

There are several reasons for completely demolishing a building. For example, a developer can opt for a different type of building, for example homes where an office building used to be. Or the old parts such as the foundation no longer meet the safety requirements.
