Connecting all efforts to achieve adequate liveability conditions for the citizens of Amsterdam

Citizens, knowledge institutes, public and private actors are working towards adequate standards of liveability for the inhabitants of Amsterdam. In Reigersbos, ten different owner's associations (VvEs) have joined forces. They are searching for solutions to improve their current living situation while utilizing this process to become more energy efficient with the help of Stichting !Woon and the City of Amsterdam.

The Reigersbos Facade Project

As part of their VvEs (Housing Association), a group of owners is pursuing the replacement of the outdated facade of 280 apartments in the Winkel Centrum of Reigersbos, which provides insufficient insulating capacity. The owners seek to improve their comfort while diminishing their already high energy costs with the facade project. Stichting! Woon and the Municipality of Amsterdam support the owners in this decision-making process. Defining the owners' requirements on a social, economic, and technical level and aligning expectations about the process and its possible outcomes is necessary for the facade project to reach a successful conclusion.

Communication is Fundamental

Effective communication is critical for successful outcomes in processes with different participants involved. In the Reigersbos Living Lab, it was fundamental to create spaces for communication and discussion to give structure and clarity to the steps that need to be taken by owners and other participants involved. A series of activities, meant to be open for adjustment from the participants, were developed to support communication along with participation in these socio-technical complex processes.

The Living
Lab Team

The Reigersbos Retrofit Living Lab has been a collaboration between three students from the MADE Master, homeowners, Stichting !Woon, the social housing association Stadgenoot and the City of Amsterdam. Along with diverse experts from Energy Lab Zuid-Oost, AMS Institute, and TU Delft, who shared valuable experiences and knowledge and gave feedback to improve the product.
