The results of this Living Lab provide guidelines that can be applied when implementing a circular cup system in ARTIS. These guidelines describe the set-up for a future system that, under certain preconditions, could work in the context of the park, and indicate ways to improve certain conditions so that the circular cup system is more likely to be successful in the future.

Future scalability

The pilot during this Living Lab was performed on a small scale but showed that 91% of the visitors returned their cup; a surprisingly high number. However, a system of automatic collecting machines as a return-point for the cups would be desirable, and it would help make the system scalable throughout the entire park. A pilot with these collecting machines is therefore recommended as a next step. On top of this, the approach could be scaled and adapted to more leisure locations. The Club van Elf could be an interesting starting point, as this is a group of 24 day-trip locations in the Dutch recreation sector, of which ARTIS is also a member. Also, the Vermaat Group is responsible for multiple restaurant locations in this Club van Elf, to which they could apply the circular approach.
