Urban Climate Damage Model

LLlandingnewclouds1_edited.jpg

A data-driven decision making tool to assess climate damages on a local scale

VISION

An urban methodology to integrate climate impacts on a local scale

This model was initiated as part of a brief to create a methodology to estimate climate damage costs for the Engineering Bureau of the Gemeente Amsterdam (City of Amsterdam) in order to prioritise redevelopment projects.

CAPABILITIES

A Flexible and Scalable Methodology for Climate Costing

IDENTIFY

The Urban Climate Damage Model (UCDM) identifies climate change impact hotspots based on estimated damage costs. The model uses spatial mapping and data analysis of climate scenarios, urban assets and vulnerability factors to identify areas at risk.

PRIORITISE

The model compares and assesses climate adaptive performance of all areas of Amsterdam. Using comparative efficiency scores, it shows which areas need most urgent prioritisation for climate adaptation.

ANALYSE

It provides the essential context and data behind an area's risk and climate score.

A FLEXIBLE METHODOLOGY

A novel participatory approach, using a data envelopment analysis of risk assessment.

The methodology for quantifying relative climate cost and risk was developed through co-creation and stakeholder participation. It integrates a range of climate criteria, performs a comparative analysis (DEA) and determines local performance and prioritisation of climate adaptation
