Meet the team

We are three master's students of the MSc Metropolitan Analysis, Design and Engineering (MADE) program of TU Delft and Wageningen University, located in the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions. Over a period of four months, we have helped Waternet & PWN with identifying the technical potential and municipality demand for thermal energy recovery from the WRK.

OUR MISSION

Challenges concerning the Dutch Energy transition are among the most pressing issues of this century. We believe that in order to realize this transition, we have to act swiftly and we have to act now. This Urban Living Lab is yet another example of how complex this task is. However, we believe that our research provides interesting insights on where to start.

Our Living Lab Method

"Urban Living Labs provide a co-innovative setting, in which multiple stakeholders jointly test, develop and create metropolitan solutions." - AMS Institute

In this project, we have engaged with a large variety of actors. Among these actors where knowledge institutes (KWR, AMS), drinking water companies (PWN, Waternet, Dunea) and representatives working on the Regional Energy Strategy (RES).

Most importantly however, are the municipalities located near WRK infrastructure. Together, we explored if and how thermal energy recovery from the WRK can support their heat-transition in the coming years.
