DO IT YOURSELF

It is very easy to make paper out of your waste at home. Whilst elephant manure might be a bit hard to gather for you, other materials can be used. Your organic kitchen waste for instance, old paper and even your old clothing can be used. The hardest thing is making your own deckle frame. You can make using an old picture frame and a screen mesh.

Ready? Follow the easy steps below, and before you know it, you'll have your own home-made paper!

Or, if you're up for a challenge and you have some fresh elephant dung laying around, scroll down and use our recipe for home-made elephant dung paper at the bottom of the page!

1.

Shred or cut the materials you want to use and put them in water. If needed, wash the materials, then boil for till soft. If you want, you can add baking soda to speed up the softening process of the material.

2.

Now you need to make pulp out of the cooked material by using a blender or any other kitchen tool that has a cutting function. The finer the pulp, the smoother the piece of paper will be.

3.

Place the pulp in water, and scoop it out using your deckle frame. Make sure edges of the deckle frame are down when scooping.

4.

Take out the frame and turn around, press the pulp on another piece of cloth.

5.

Now comes the hardest part: waiting for it to be dry.
