09     Paper experiments at Papierlab Rotterdam

We teamed up with Marieke de Hoop of Papierlab Rotterdam. She is a papermaker, who has researched making paper from waste for 10 years, and her lab has all the required tools to make our elephant paper. She helped us with some steps in the process, including the use of the heavy machinery needed to grind the manure fibres into pulp. She also showed us how to effectively turn this pulp into a high-quality piece of paper. With her help, we were able to produce approximately 60 paper sheets out of fibres from elephant manure, recycled paper trash and discarded workers’ clothes from ARTIS. The results can be seen by clicking the button below.
