Case study: The Marineterrein in Amsterdam
We set up an experiment on the Marineterrein in Amsterdam, aiming to implement a small-scale biodigester on the terrain. We aimed to bring different stakeholders together to pursue this common goal, and to facilitate learning and research about biodigestion.

The case study will be located at the Marineterrein in Amsterdam. At the Marineterrein, we're actively learning and adapting to ensure the future livability of our city for everyone. Through collaboration and experimentation, we're discovering the most effective ways for the city to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

4 restaurants (Scheepskameel, Kanteen25, Apollonia and Homeland) will work with the Marineterrein beheer by providing the biodigester food waste. AMS Institute participating as knowledge institute will focus on research about urban biodigesters, together with the vertical farm company Growy and the foundation Cocratos (the owner of the current biodigester). The biodigester manufacturer Circ provides the machine's maintenance. The municipality of Amsterdam and Growy will help with the funding.

To validate the requirements list developed by reviewing exsiting urban biodigester project, we also visited the biodigester in Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam South-East. Huib Pasman, the innovation officer of JC ArenA explained the biodigester's current situation.

Main results
The cocreation sessions together with the case study provided us with the foundation for gathering input and also validating our findings of the main requirements for having a small-scale biodigester.
In the image below you will find the main requirements briefly summarized per category. This will be used as input for the creation of our tool that facilitates you with setting up your own Biodigester. Visit it soon at the product page!

Documentary
If you are not so much of a reader then take a look at the short documentary that we have made! It explains the functioning and summarizes the opportunities and the challenges of having a small-scale biodigester.
