To supply the Horeca 3 with renewable energy in the near future, solar panels should be installed. On the fort's current roof, of about 2,400 squared meters, there is potentially room for 463 solar panels with a capacity of 400 watts peak (Wp) per solar panel. This comes down to a total theoretical system capacity of 185.20 Kilowatt peak (kWp).

The solar panels will be installed in parallel with the orientation of the fort in south-east directon.  Per kWp installed, the system can produce approximately 888 kWh per year. This comes down to a forecast of 164,458 kWh per year. Using the solar energy alone can avoid about 77,328 kg of CO2 per year*. The solar panels can cover about 46 % of the cafe's consumption. The remaining 54 % will still have to come from the electricity grid. The payback period of the solar panels is about 6 years.
