In addition to the ambition to make full use of affordable and renewable energy, the fort also wants to reuse as many materials as possible. In the context of renewable energy, this ambition is translated into the storage of sustainably generated energy in a battery system, to be reused on site. The battery can endure a peak power of 72 Kilowatt peak (kWp) and has a storage volume of 198 kWh. By combining the battery with the solar panels, about 86 % of the cafe's consumption can be covered. The remaining 14 % will still have to come from the grid. If the battery is not combined with the solar panels, it can be recovered within about 12 years, otherwise within 6 years. By combining the battery system and the solar panels, about 74,390 kg of CO2 per year can be avoided*.
